Many people are crazy about Jay-Z, as this stage name is famous and recognizable, but should you ask if they know who Shawn Corey Carter is, the majority will be puzzled. Nevertheless the passionate followers of such prominent hip-hop singer as Jay-Z know that this is his real name. The scale of his work is really amazing with all the albums sold throughout the world. Though in spite of being a musician he has turned into an excellent businessman, who created a net, which is worth 150 million dollars with increasing profits from the sales of albums. His life is full of success. Having been rewarded with Grammy a number of times, Jay-Z enjoys his fame as his work of a musician was highly evaluated.
But the sphere of his interests is not limited with his musical work only. It is much wider. He somehow managed to be successful in the clothing industry too. Rocawear was created by him together with Damon Dash in 1999. Being aimed at those who love hip-hop fashion the brand was successfully promoted and the rights to this brand were sold later by Jay-Z for 204 million dollars. In spite of it he goes on looking after marketing policy, product development and other important issues as a holder of a company stake.
Jay-Z is also a co-owner of sports bar chain 40/40 Club from 2003 when the first bar was launched in New York City. Then in two years the one was opened in the Atlantic City and a couple of years later the grand opening took place in Las Vegas, where the rap mogul appeared in the company of two stylish ladies: Beyoncé Knowles and her sister. All are awed by his achievements in this sphere, though the problems also took place. That bar in Las Vegas eventually failed because there were a number of financial troubles. But venues in other cities are famous and known as various sports memorabilia and celebrities are spotted in them. There is good live music in all of them and Jay-Z tried his best to make the places recognized. When in 2003 he performed the song "Dirt Off Your Shoulder", there is a line in it, where he mentions 40/40 club.
For three years Jay-Z was a chief executive in a notable hip-hop record label Def Jem Recordings, but in 2007 he stepped down with the statement that time had come for him to take on other challengers. It seems that this is his life motto. He never stops at what he reaches and moves further, the new achievements open new horizons and Jay-Z skillfully conquers new heights. He was holding a very powerful post, thanks to him many careers were created. For instance, Rihanna became an R-n-B international star and this is one of his merits. According to the statements of Def Jam representative, the requirements of Jay-Z were too steep for the company to keep him further. That's understandable. Jay-Z knows what he is worth of.
Having refused from the president post, iconic rapper plunged into work of Roc-A-Fella-Records, the brand he founded with Damon Dash and Kareem "Biggs" Burke a year earlier. If you paid attention, there is a reference in the title of the label on John Rockfeller, the oil magnate. Actually it was an independent outlet and Jay-Z was the only performer in it, supported from time to time by his associates. The debut which followed Reasonable Doubt with the hit created together with American rapper Foxy Brown "Ain't no Sugar", was a huge success. It should be mentioned that the influence of this company upon the whole musical industry was great. Jay-Z, Roc-a-Fellas and other people contributing to it can be truly called the trendmakers, and the trends they created permeated the industry at the turn of the century.
